hi all, i use my media centre pc only for watching tv and movies, and the occasional browse on net.

ive seen guides before on what processes to shut down for gaming optimization and was wondering if there is something similar for media pc's?

thanks :)

No Budget from the sound of the question.

I think OP wants to know what windows processes can be safely terminated to stop them taking up system resources whilst using it as a media centre.

same as for gaming, particuarly stop disc indexing and search prgrams anything that access the disc a lot. make sure you dont disble services that are involved in media scheduling and downloaing epg info though.

Unlike a game PC a media pc is twiddiling its thumbs most of the time, optimisation is not really ncecessary unless your trying to say rencode some content between formats or dont have the right grapics card or codec support for HD content

ok thanks mate, some good points there. the machine im using is a bit underpowered (p4 1.6ghz) and sometimes struggles with bits on media centre.

i will try and stop the disk indexing
