I'm thinking of building a media PC at some point, all I want it for is to watch movies (Blu Ray/HD) and listen to music, so nothing powerful, just wondering what kind of costs I'm looking at? I've worked a build out at roughly £250, give or take, no monitor/hdd/OS/speakers needed, so am I roughly there price wise?

Also, am I right in thinking that I can get away with a super lower powered CPU as long as my graphics card can handle the movies? If I got a lower powered CPU, could I get away with running just a heatsink without a fan (I've seen some passive heatsinks, but worry about their effect with an SSF).

By the time I get around to paying for the parts I doubt you'd be able to get ahold of most of the stuff people would suggest, so suggestions aren't really needed, just guestimates.

£250 is around the same price people are paying at the moment for a high def media PC. M-ITX seems to be very popular, seeing as they're so quiet, energy efficient and compact. The onboard graphics on the Zotac GeForce 9300 mobo are adequate for Blu-Ray decoding and streaming. No need to splash on a GPU which is only going to make things noisier.

:o that's an expensive mobo, surely a cheaper one and a 3450 would do the job just as well for less money? Also would allow me to go down the AMD route as they consume less power and cost less, right?

Either way, £250 seems a pretty good price :)
