Windows Vista Home Premium 64bit edition. I play a video through Windows Media Player 11 and if I were to
close it about half way through, the window disappers like it should, but the
audio keeps playing and it won't stop until I open a new video or shut it
down through Task Manager. Is there any way to fix this??? I'm sure a codec is still holding on to it but not sure how to find it

Mine carries on for a second or so, but that's it. Can't say I've noticed it in Vista mind, I tend to play all my media through XP at the moment.

It's a bug i've experience once or twice on Vista home premium too, not sure what it's related too as the mp3 codec comes with windows, so thats can't really be doing much wrong (if it were a divx file i could assume i may need some new versions). It doesn't happen *too* often for me so atm like a lot of other things with vista, i'm just shutting up and living with it. Microsoft love people like me :)

Happens to my Vista Business edition, doesn't matter what type of file it is (mp3, xvid etc), it just disappears into the background and plays with itself!

I never used to have this problem. I wonder if one of the auto updates has made this happen if you have installed vista recently and have not run wmp11 until after the recent updates.
Going to do a fresh install of vista tonight & run wmp11 first thing before any updates.
Will turn off the modem.

I have always had this issue. I reinstalled Vista a couple of weeks ago after for other reasons but it made no difference.

its ffdshow that causes the issue apparently

and can be difficult to replicate at times depending whether the 32 or 64 bit version of wmp is being used

But i bet you were connected to the net & windows will install updates as soon as you get to the desktop & i would guess that launching WMP11 was not the first thing you did after install giving windows more than enough time to have updates in place.

As i suspected after a fresh install with out being connected to the web to make sure no updates got in before i had WMP11 loaded has now solved the problem.
Letting windows update afterwards has not brought the problem back.:)

This has happened to me since I connected my Xbox 360 to my main PC. Don't have ffdshow so that's not the issue. I think it's something relating to Media Center personally. (Vista x64 Ultimate by the way)

This update maybe to blame as i normally skip this one but i installed it with the previous install thinking what the heck.
So i installed it again just now & after some attempts got the wmp problem again, so i un-installed it rebooted & have yet to get the problem back.
BTW i don't have the wmp11 hotfix installed ether.

Alas

After a few hours of playing about with WMP11 i have managed to get the problem back,i still think its down to a recent update as it only started to happen recently & im not willing to use an un-updated vista to avoid the small problem.
