media server on TP-Link not working

After a full day of trying to get the media server on TL-WR1043ND to work i have given in and admitted defeat along with my brother. So i have a Sony story 1.5tb HDD connected to it, go into options add the drive to share and the best i can get is a few media files (if lucky) showing up on the other computers in the house and on the playstation, tried adding single folders and files, adding and removing with no luck. Tried my other external with the same result also used different cables to the HDD and there not the problem either, so must be something to do with the router which i know people have had problems with but cant find any one who have had problems with the media server. Pretty much everything else works fine, one last thing the option 'open the disk' in the router options refuses to work which concerns me as its gonna be pain to add new files if i can get the thing to work. Desperate for any help that may solve this now lol.

one last note i have tried updating the firmware to fix the problems, some fixed but as you can see the media server wasnt one of them.

For what it's worth, I had exactly the same problem, and like you I gave up. I can use it fine as a network drive on PCs, but the media server just won't play nice.
