Have a media streamer which has a load of music on it for family members to access. However, I have noticed when someone is using it my ping during online games goes through the roof. Is this normal? I thought it wouldn't use the broadband bandwidth just the wireless signal. Sorry if I'm being dumb but I have little experience streaming media.

wireless is.. rubbish.

If you have 54mb router than that bandwidth is shared with all users on the network, so yeah - if you are on wireless, and someone is streaming chunks of data over the same network then it's going to have a negative impact on ping.

If you're not all on wireless, then it sounds like you've got a rubbish router!

We are all on wireless using standard O2 router.

if theres any way u can plug directly into the router, it would help a lot

the problem is not with the broadband bandwidth, but with the wireless bandwidth

so its your connection to the router thats slow

doesn't matter what router you get, you are still limited by the wireless connection.

u could try sharing the load between multiple wireless access points, althou tbh, i doubt u'll gain that much from it

your best way is to try and wire up some of the computers instead
if u can run a cable from ur pc to the router, then u wont be limited to the wireless connection and have a direct connection to your broadband
