Kind of forgot about this possibility. I currently use Handbrake to transcode my Blu Rays to .264 in MKVs. I've only got a dual core CPU so it takes 10-15 hours. Can I use my 4870 to do the work (or even both GPU and CPU, unlikely I know!) and if so, what software should I use? I know there is an Avivo encoder, but is it flexible enough to create MKVs/change encoder settings?

I need my files to be playable on a Popcorn Hour.

Cheers.

Not aware of any that work on AMD GPU's, though there is plenty of CUDA enabled encoding software out there. I'd suggest trying Avivo and see what happens!

Unfortunately although there are both solutions for ati and nvidia, neither have matured enough to to compete with the quality or speed of cpu based x264 encoding.
