I've been using media portal for a few years but recently its become a real pain due to frequent daily crashes etc. I've tried to diagnose these but I've now pretty much given up and decided its time to look for an alternative.

Currently I use MePo for streaming live TV (freesat), music, TV series and movies to various MePo clients around the house. This runs from an i3 HTPC with TBS 6985 tuner card and data held on a 15TB NAS.

Is there anything out that can do all of this in a single package? Needs to be wife friendly like MePo is when its working!

Plex?

I use this for Music, TV series & Movies...not sure about live TV though as I use the freeview on the TV for this.

Easy to use and just works.

Nothing really touches Mediaportal as far as tv/wife friendly is concerned imo! Funny you say about the crashes, mine seems to have a time of month every few weeks were it doesn't play ball then gets better by itself! its usually the tv series plugin that causes issues if anything.

Theres a script on there forums that runs a checkdb and backs the DB's up everyday that's quite handy.

I've recently done a clean install on win8 and the latest release and touch wood the crashes are few and far between these days!

You could try XMBC with a tv plugin but my experience of that is far worse than enduring mediaportals inability to remain stable :)

Thanks guys, I've taken a look at Plex but cant see anything which would allow me to use my satellite tuners, so for the moment I guess I will be sticking with MePo. Time to start troubleshooting again, I think though lizardking that your right the TV series or the TV server is causing my issues.
