Looks like with the realise of the new shogun, Medieval II Total War is on special £2.50 through steam.

Unless Shogun 2 is something special I'll still consider M2TW to be the best in the series by far. Utterly brilliant game

My mate's been banging on to me about getting Rome Total War which I did for £1.75 yesterday, is Medieval II more of the same?

Yes, obviously a completely different time frame though. With much improved graphics and diplomacy on the campaign map, and then there is the wealth of excellent mods that are available. Get it bought!

got to say I preferred the medieval total war to medieval II, something about the way the campaign map worked just felt better to play. if anybody cares, second hand copies of the original can be had for 1p + postage from the book seller so similar money.

tempted to pick up the original.

It is a shame they didn't include the kingdoms expansion in there as well as stainless steel mod requires it.

Played this game to death. Awesome, but I hate the siege AI. Some questions:

Does anyone else have problems moving archers and crossbowmen on and off walls?
Pikes are useless as they always switch to swords - fix for this?
Also, anyone recommend really good mods (never modded this before so wouldn't know ehere to start).

At that price it is a steal, hours of fun for next to nothing. Probably the best of the series.

This, there is no point playing it these days without stainless steel. such a great mod.

Stainless Steel is not the only great mod available for Medieval II (albeit one of the best ever made).

Broken Crescent works just fine without the expansion pack, recommend it to anyone looking for even greater experience.

And a side note from me, before you start playing with the mods, spend some 15-30 hours with the base game so you get the feel and some skills. Most if not all mods improve AI significantly and enough to say, you will most likely struggle (so don't let that put you off!).

EDIT:

I encourage everyone to buy Kingdoms anyway, mods such as Stainless Steel, Third Age and upcoming Europa Barbarorum II, are one of the best in entire modding scene.

My dad has my copy of this Grrr. This was the 1st total war game i had was great. I did not get into empire at all. I just bought Rome in the sale the other day as a lot of people think its the best and i have never played it. Surprisingly the graphics aint too bad on rome considering.
