Medieval II: Total War

You need Kingdoms for that.

Here's all you need to get started - http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=417435.

Thanks for that. I have Kingdoms, but am running into problems :(

I have downloaded the SS6.3 1,2,3,4,5 files but don't know what to do with them :o and the installation patcher, which I ran (it put lots of nice things into my mod folder), but now nothing will run - it says "Not enough campaigns or files missing"

have i missed the deal? :(

Problem? :D

I'll have a look into that in a minute.

Have you resolved the problem yet?

That's what a quick Google search reveals:

No, but thanks for the link :D

Don't have much time at the moment, so I'll sit down with it later this week and try to get it running. These things always sound so easy for other people!

It looks really good, though and unless Shogun 2 is mega-wicked-awesome then I'll always keep going back to MW2 so would be worth improving it. Is Third Age just as good?

If you like Middle Earth then it's certainly going to be a positive surprise for you. It's incredible what these teams of volunteers are able to do with the game.

Europa Barbarorum II is going to be huge as well, it's a full scale conversion of the Rome Total War mod that is going to be even better. Unfortunately with such mods, we never know when they're going to be finished. Kind of like Blizzard :p

Does anyone else have problems moving archers and crossbowmen on and off walls?

I was about to say no. But the correct answer is always. Its just that after a few years of playing RomeTW you learn when units will ignore the siege tower an inch from them, and instead walk half way round the castle to the open gate and burning pitch. There is usually a rhyme and rhythm to why they act that way, but is probably difficult to accept when you first start.

Pikes are useless as they always switch to swords - fix for this?

Had you selected the phalanx formation button for that unit? [its the special abilities button near the bottom right of the screen below the group formations area] Many units with long weapons are supposed to switch to short swords when the enemy get in their face.

Otherwise weapon switching issues are fairly usual sorts of bugs for the TW games. Most of the big mods have ironed out theirs, though. As others have said, go get the Stainless Steel mod.

My SS6.3 torrent had 5 files + an exe. Should be just a case of clicking the exe file and directing it to the X:\steam\steamapps\common\medieval ii total war\mods\SS6.3 folder.

Same for the 6.4 patch exe.

You should not need to start renaming one of the Tutonic/Americas etc folders to get it to work like you do most mods for MTW and Steam. IIRC you will still need to launch the game from within the Kingdom's Steam menu play button, and not any desktop shortcut the game or mod exe gives you.

I'd missed the exe! Thanks for your help guys, it's all installed and I'm having a look now. Seems huge! Lots of new settlements which is great :D

Started a game as England.

Bought the game in Steam sale xmas before last. After reading this it's time to give it a blast...!

Only played the original Shogun game previous.

Anyone using Stainless Steel found a way to switch off/not install the "improved" user interface graphics with the latest version [6.3?]

Great Photoshop skills and all, but as a UI, they're godawful and stopping me from playing :(

just got the Gold Edition of this on Steam via a trade for Bills hat on TF2!

not installed yet, but is the game good vanilla? Or do i need mods?

And if i do need mods... which ones and where they be :)
