Megahalems Rev c

The supermega was a god cooler, on a par with my previous TRUE. However, the k2 is much better, and a lot quieter. I get temp drops off 4-5c at idle and load, and with much lower fan speeds.

yes but look how ugly it is, that is if you mean the Mount Doom

Quite like the look of the k2 mount doom, i suppose looks are a personal thing. Though cooling wise its a lot better than the super mega was. I like the way that the phanteks coolers are available in different colours. A wee bit expensive though.

hi Setter

i dont intend to go above 4.7 OC..... but if i change my mind and decide to push 5GHZ i'll get the Phanteks.

you see the thing is i game via a 1080p tv screen, so i dont need to go crazy, but i do need something that's future proof, plus way better than what i have now, so all of this is quite complicated to get right.

i'm getting the CPU, MOBO, RAM on monday
intel i5 2500k, Asrock z68 extreme 4 gen 3, Corsair Vengeance Blue 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit, i'm getting quite excited !!!:D

i already have a modded Lian A 17, I should try and upload some photos i suppose

would be interested to see some temps with the megahalems cooler

it's about 5 degrees hotter than the Phanteks, so it's still pretty good, but i only think this is important above 4.8, not sure, but i'm hopping my modded case will drop this temp back down.

the only thing i know is that my original Thor's Hammer fails above 4.6 and MEGAHALEMS is quite a lot better than this...... but i brought that cooler 3 years ago, when OC figures weren't as high as they are now.

the Megahalems is still used all over the web, up to about 4.7; maybe even higher i dont know, i've read quite a few posts from gamers that have sold their Megahalems to get a more modern twin tower set up... only to regret doing so !

the thing that puts me off the phanteks and sliver arrow ect is the size, its just HUGE,i dont even know if it will fit in my case ect, then theres ram clearance issues

With the super mega, i was maxing at 77c under LinX. That was with 1900 rpm viper fans. With the k2 im getting a max of 73c, and quite a drop in noise due to the fans on the k2. The size of the dual tower coolers is a bit off putting. But they are good value, due to the inclusion of decent fans. The prolimatech cost me £70.00, then i had to add two fans at £14.00 each, almost £100.00. Whereas the k2 cost £60.00 with two very good fans included.

the megahalems black is 52 quid ( but not from here) plus i have the Xigmateks already

yes the size puts me off too, it spoils the look of the mobo, it's too much in your face !

Yep, the black one is stunning. Though i couldnt find one anywhere at the time. So i opted for the newly released super mega, silver with copper inserts.

that looks good too, it's one degree cooler :D

what spoils all these coolers is the top plate with the pipes poking through, it looks very scruffy..... that's why i got the Thor's Hammer, i might try to get this working..... it's already been lapped ( stock finish was quite rough) but needs really good fans.. with these it might be as good as the Megahalems, but it is a risk, because in factory standard trim it's about 5 degrees cooler.

the lap and those green apache fans might be enough.... not sure !

Yep, it was actually one degree warmer than the TRUE black that it replaced, albeit it was lapped to 2000 grade grit. The akasa vipers are good fans, but pretty loud at full pelt.

i cant use thors hammer, i cant get the crossbar kit for the 1155 from this country, only from abroad, never mind, because even if i could, it would still be 2nd best to a Megahalems so it's not worth the effort is it !!!!!

Well it all arrived yesterday, CPU, MOBO AND RAM

the ASROCK extreme 4 gen 3 looks great and the manual/ OC looks easy to understand, the Blue vengeance 8gb is very flashy, but too tall.
