MegaUpload has been shut down

I'm disappointed that multiupload seems to have shut themselves down. I used it a lot for uploading phone stuff, as well as the occasional other (non-copyright) file, as it gave good download speeds without an account unlike a lot of other sites like MegaUpload/RapidShare etc. It also means that there's TONS of dead links on XDA :(.

Anyone know a good replacement that lets you upload without an account, and gives decent download speeds? I can use DropBox.com and put them in a public folder, but it was more convenient with MultiUpload :(.

I still don't understand why Megaupload has been taken down whilst Youtube etc are all immune, the guy said in the video that all of the big media outlets had their own admin powers to delete any content which affected them.

Because they are protected as they followed some basic rules. Megauploaded didn't follow these simple rules, so are not protected.

I heard a great scream of frustration, as if thousands of porn downloads were suddenly severed...

Hahahahaha
I'm surprised pirate bay is still up thought that would have been hammered by now!
Are they trying to prosecute the downloaders or are they just after the bigger fishes to remove the ease of access to material?

It's hardly astonishing. A cockup which happens fairly regularly.

They know have the correct paperwork, the judge just needs to decide if it's still valid as it was obtained afterwards.

What is wrong with the police there! It didn't even take that much manpower/equipment to kill Osama. This wasn't some drug kingpin, or mafia boss. With any luck they will end up letting this guy go.

Having watched that video and read up Kim Dotcom's entry on Wikipedia, I would have to say that I have absolutely ZERO sympathy for the guy - he sounds like a complete scumbag.

It's a pity the arrest didn't happen in the UK, the Police would have killed him . . . and nobody would have rioted :D

yup! it was great for that! loads of mods on my website went kaput together with MU! at least we could have had a warning about it..

Yeah, no warning whatsoever.
I can only imagine how many people got royally screwed by the closing down.

Imagine if people had important documents they needed? Because I damn well bet that happened. They were using the service legally and were punished in turn.
