Meguiars - Excellent!

Given that I've a) Not done it for over a year and b) It's the RR day tommorrow, I felt I really ought to actually make use of the vast amounts of car care junk I've collected over the years and do a PROPER clean/polish/wax on the Mondeo.

So, I overcome my DIY-retardedness, got outside, and spent the afternoon cleaning.

Products used:

Meguiars Gold Class Car Wash + Meguiars Washmit - nothing particularly interesting here, I do that once a week anyway. Washmit is pretty damn useful - more so than a sponge. It's kinder to your paintwork and it lets you get into more awkward areas such as under spoilers etc.

Chamois to dry - Didn't used to be able to get any results with one of these but now I've worked out how to use it, it was a very good way of avoiding irritating dried watermarks.

Meguiars Claybar - Used one before, did nothing, put it back in its box. This time I actually bothered to read the manual, and boy does it work. Removes loads of annoying rubbish, INCLUDING the paintwork off the door of the Corsa that parked beside me at Sainsburys the other day. Left paintwork as smooth as class. Recommended.

Meguiars ScratchX - Got some irritating scratches caused by inconsiderate morons in a carpark and a nice scratch on my front bumper where I sucked particularly hard at parking one time, so gave this a go. Waste of time really, nothing really changed.

Autoglym Super Resin Polish. Not sure what this does, but I had a bottle so I applied it anyway :p

Meguiars NXT Tech Wax - Brilliant. Went on dead easy, came off dead easy, shines quite nicely.

Autoglym Car Glass polish - Does exactly what it says on the tin but it's a bit of a faff as you apply it and remove it as you would a wax, rather than just spray on and wipe off.

End results? Well...

Very pleased, although Silver has to be the least rewarding colour to wax.

What do you reckon? :p

Excellent job :p Alloys still look horrid. you should have got those ST200? alloys you mentioned a while back though ;)

I wanted a set of 17" Oz Supertourismo but just can't justify £1k on wheels when that £1k could go towards some 18's in E39 fitment.. :p

Care to share the knowledge? :D I can never get a decent result with one!!

Where do you all get your meguiars products from? My local place doesnt do them at all!

You can get the whole range from OcUK IIRC - and the secret to the bar...

Spray the whole panel with the Quick detailer stuff. Then rub the bar :) It's that simple :)

And yes, I also used Autoglym Tyre Detailer.

OCUK is the correct answer ;)

You really need to put the effort in with scratch x fox, i spent 5 mins rubbing very fast and that only just made things better.... Must rub harder and faster in future :p

Car looks very clean.

It's funny when you were commenting on my ST24 regarding the colour of the rear doors, but your rear doors too seem to have a different colour to the rest of the car, probably just light!

Very strange.

Very clean :)

The Meguiars range is very good. I use the gold class wash and mitt myself as well. Trying to do it every weekend (why did I buy another black car?). I've used the scratch-x stuff in a few areas, but I'm getting a few panels resprayed in two weeks anyway.

I reckon......it looks like a silver coloured Mondeo that has just been cleaned.

Fear my powers of observation :D

***edit***

Question - how much did all those cleaning products set you back?

I seem to be the only one who thinks that the wheels suit the mk2 RSAP very well.

Looks smart Matey :)

To get best use from a Clay bar.

Cut a quater off the end, place rest of bar in a sealed bag and keep.
Squidge the section of bar about until forms a ball, then flatten out.
Use on side of the 'pancake' until starts going black. Turn over and keep using.
Once that side has gone black squidge back into a ball then flatten out again and continue.
Keep going until the whole car feels completely smooth to the touch, then start on the polishing and waxing.

lol I did pretty much the exact same thing today :D Did the:

Wash with Megs NXT wash
Megs clay bar
Scratch X
Autoglym gloss drops
Megs NXT wax
Autoglym window polish

:p

edit: Car looks great BTW

The leon will get cleaned like this one day, its a shame that i cba to do it as it makes so much difference :(
