Memes causing offense!

I've known memes since Hampsterdance, but I didn't know that they were called memes until only 18 months(ish) ago. I just knew them as internet in-jokes / fads then become viral. Were the likes of Hampsterdance and Badger Badger actually called memes back then? I think not. 'Meme' appears to be a buzz word that only cropped up on the net from around 2010.
 
I kind of blame Reddit for the drop in meme standards. A quality meme is a wonderful thing and when they used to be created in the more original and creative forums they could be spectacular.

And then Reddit happened.

HAHAHA LET'S RUN THIS *** INTO THE GROUND LOL etc etc
