Memo / Note Software ???

I currently have a notepad (.txt) file that i use to keep notes, urls, commmands, snippets etc which I constantly refer to for work. This is getting very large nowadays and increasing cluttered and hard to find things.

This got me wondering if there is a piece of software that would allow me to organise and search my notes better??? My requirements are...

1) Behind the scenes still saves my notes in a .txt flat file that i can just revert back to browsing with notepad if needed (but obviously has a better front end than notepad).
2) Quick and easy to add/remove items and very easy to search for things!!!
3) Ideally doesn't need installing, as i want to run it from a pendrive.

Anyone got any suggestions??? what do you lot use??? or do you just do the same as me and stick it all in a .txt file.

Cheers.

That tiddlywiki looks excellent. I will defo have a look at it in more detail. I do use opera a lot tho... so i may try and dig out the widget too? any idea's what its called. Are there any other similar things to tiddlywiki (i like the fact you can host it locally) or is it a unique concept that only they have used so far?

Any other idea's from anyone else????
