Decided to upgrade my RAM whilst getting my motherboard and cpu upgraded as well, and not being so great on RAM and what overclocks well, I thought I'd ask the more RAM-minded people :)

I noticed the OcUK 2GB PC2-8500 RAM is well cheap, but I'm a firm believer in "you get what you pay for" and being £50 cheaper than other stuff like Ballistix I'm expecting this ram to be quiet poor, that correct? I read the thread just a little bit down the page on this RAM and it seems like it has trouble even reaching 1066Mhz which it what it's meant to be at stock. Plus I noticed it's only got 1 year warranty which is kind of shocking compared to lifetime on other stuff, kinda thinking that's why it's £50 - £55 cheaper than others.

Unfortunately I don't think I can afford Ballistix PC2-8500 2GB or I would probably be getting that, but it's possibly a little too high for me to fork out (would it even be worth it? I'm not sure of the performance increase from 800Mhz to 1066Mhz). It's lower down version however (the 6400 stuff) looks very nice and definetly in budget. How good is this stuff? Am I likely to reach 1000Mhz on this overclocked with not much problem? I'm guessing maybe at 5-5-5-18?

Any other choises of RAM sub-£90/£100 that are good for overclocking and PC2-6400 or faster?

Thanks for the replies in advance.

Well there's been considerably more posts about Micron based sticks failing (inc the Ballistix), tho much of that can maybe be put down to their popularity. Most ppl are more than happy with their OcUK sticks, and any faulty ones with replaced for working ones by OcUK.

Virtually all OEM equipment comes with a 12 month warranty. It's guaranteed by the retailer rather than the manufacturer.

The PC6400 Ballistix is very good and should do ~1000mhz at 4-4-4-12, rising to well over 1100mhz (often over 1200mhz) at 5-5-5-15. Tho it's PC5300 version is considered to be the exact same stuff.

Plus Crucial have the best returns service in the business.
