Can I use Ram that is 1600mhz in a mobo that only support 1333mhz?

Should work fine, the ram will work at the lower speed.
What motherboard are you using or looking at?

You see ive got a extra core 2 and some sticks of ddr3 lying around and want to make use of them.

They should work fine, with a overclock you may get them to run @ 1600mhz
