memory foam - any tried it?

We have a sleepeezee 2000 pocket spring with a layer of memory foam on the top and it is incredibly comfortable. The missus used to get back ache from our old mattress but doesnt any more. I do find it is hotter to sleep on but as its coming into winter it isnt a problem.

i know the guy (well, i know a guy who knows this guy) who owns the company that makes the beds for the savoy - 4 grand for the cheapest - lol.

The disabled child I look after used to sleep on a Tempur Mattress, it helped his muscles (which can get stiff and contracted in the night) and it also helped him move around more easily if he was led on his arm or something.
He actually now sleeps on a water bed because he found that even more beneficial.

I haven't heard it mentioned but I always imagined that would be the case just looking at the adverts, the way you sink into it.

My parents replaced my bed at home with one that has a foam mattress and it just isn't right, I don't know if it is memory foam but I usually wake up because I'm too hot and/or sweating. Hard to very hard mattresses always feel better for me, in fact some of the best nights sleep I've ever had have been on the floor.

who are you the local english teacher on overclockers?

I hope the lack of punctuation in that was intentional as well for ironies sake. :)

my parents have an expensive matress, i think its just a post spring one with memeery foam on the top half. very soft and comfy but not to soft and comfy its just right. deffo get a part memory foam bed.

looking into getting a new bed and memory foam seems to be on about half that is on sale in the shop i went to and although very comfortable, im a little unsure on it as i feel like it will be one of those nice at first but actually wehn trying to sleep it's too different getting used to it and also just isn't acutally that comfy.

wondering if anyone has actually got a bed with memory foam and can offer me some advice.

also while i got this thread open, can anyone reccomend a place to buy beds online. i have looked but all are very similiar and provide a load of info i don't really understand.

thanks

My father used to have pretty bad back trouble and was constantly visiting the chiropractor. Eventually he decided to buy a tempura mattress, says its the best thing he ever did. hasn't been back to the chiropractor since.

My wife and I bought a memory foam mattress about 6 months ago for around £750.00.

Best mattress I have ever slept on, I run pretty hot and have never had a problem with getting too warm in bed on it, I think the latest generation don't suffer from this problem as much.

Getting out of it or rolling over was a bit strange for a few days, but we do not notice it any more - you just adjust to it.

The cheap ones are rubbish get a normal mattress if you can not afford a decent one, friends of ours have just bought a split one with memory foam on top of it, they both hate it and think ours is much better.

It's like most things in life, you get what you pay for.

Bought a Tempur mattress over 7 years ago and it's still giving me the best sleep ever. It's particularly comfortable if you sleep on your side at all. It doesn't make me any hotter than a sprung mattress either.

And if you share a bed with someone else, you don't have to share their every move. In fact the only problem now is whenever I stay away from home I don't sleep as well.

Memory foam is nice as a top layer - but I'd advise going for a pocket-sprung mattress over a fully foam one.

Mine's an IKEA jobbie (tend to be thinner than standard UK mattresses) with a memory foam top layer, which would be fine if sprung, but it's all foam and as such I seem to have created a bit of a hollow in the middle of it.

It comes back up again after a while if I manage to keep myself to either side of the bed rather than in the middle - but still - bit of a pain. Is very comfortable though :)

Have you been rotating and turning the mattress every month or so? You shouldn't leave the mattress in the same position for months on end.

Whether a memoryfoam mattress suits you depends on how you sleep. If you have a tendancy to roll over and move during the night, then a memory foam mattress is not for you. They prevent you from moving whilst asleep due to your body "sinking" into them, this can lead to overheating whilst asleep and sweating.

If however you don't tend to move around whilst asleep, then memory foam mattress are fine. As a compromise I went for a normal mattress with memory foam topper.

I purchased a memory foam pillow some years ago and, although it took some getting used to, I now don't get neck ache any more. As for memory foam mattresses, I am led to believe by my physio, that you have to careful about the base that they're put on otherwise you don't get the benefits. We bought a pocket sprung mattress from john lewis in the sale and got a fantastic bargain at half price. Well worth getting there first day of the sale.

been to a few stores to check out what they have, not liked any as the either too hard, too bouncy, or got memory foam on top so been a real struggle. went to dreams yesterday and saw one i liked but concerned as it has wool on the top which was built in which although made it very comfortable, i'm unsure if it will be like memory foam, making me hot aty night. can anyone reccomend it?

also heard a lot about dreams being a real bad company to buy from, is this true? i would avoid them but troulbe is this is the only bed i liked so far. anyone know if there prices are final as it falls just over my limimt with the draws.

thanks

What a load of rubbish. Have you actually ever slept on one, or are you just repeating what you have heard?

I have an Ergoflex memory foam mattress and have absolutely no problem with rolling over whatsoever, whenever I feel the need.

You don't roll over so much on a memory foam matress because you don't need to roll over so much, not because you can't. Sleeping on theErgoflex is no different than sleeping on the pocket sprung except that I do not get pressure build ups on my shoulders and hips anymore as the matress provides more give in those areas. Because of this I sleep better without the need to toss and turn to get comfortable.

I also never "overheat" or sweat on it, at least no more than I did on the old pocket sprung matress that it replaced.
