memory foam - any tried it?

I bought a bed with a memory foam mattress a few years ago to help support my back. Didn't help & a few months later my Chiropractor said I should have bought a bed with a firm mattress! Still I can always buy a spring mattress later.

I found one thing that's good about it, If I have to get up in the middle of the night to go to the loo, when I get back in my bed its still warm (unlike my old beds) handy for cold winter nights.

I have a memory foam mattress on my bed.

I wanted to get a really firm mattress as I sleep better on those, but the woman in Dreams said that I was too young to have one :( but she let me have the Medium firmness memory foam one.

Obviously the more denser memory foam mattresses are the most comfortable...really good! Like other people have said - if you are a hot person you will find it a bit uncomfortable - esp in the summer.

I am a cold person though and like to be snug... even better when I can starfish when the boyf isn't staying :D

My mattress cost £349

There isn't an age limit on buying firm mattresses.

I have a memory foam mattress, but the OP specified Ikea foam mattresses, not memory foam mattresses in general.

I have one, its not bad but I get too hot in it.

To be honest I would not get it again, they are not really worth the 1.5 to 2k that a good one costs.

We've got a pocket sprung mattress with a 4 inch memory foam layer on top, and it's the most comfortable mattress I've ever used. I've also got a lower back problem, which has pretty much cleared up since we had this mattress, and that's going from a 6 year old orthopedic mattress.

Best advice I can give is head over to your nearest sleep depot or bensons beds, take your coat and shoes off, and try them out. We tried 3 before we found one we were happy with, then spent the next half hour just lying on it :)

I don't suppose anyone has checked out the Silentnight ones currently doing the rounds on TV? Advertised at £229.99 with 2 free memory foam pillows from TJ's.

I bought one of these from ebay... 3" Memory foam and 5" Reflex foam... Its superb.. Was £180 delivered and is loads better than a normal matteress.... And i have never had any problems with rolling over or heat issues... ;)

I have a 2000 pocket spring/memory foam topper mattress from Dreams which didn't leave much change from £1,000. Have to say its certainly proven worth it. When you think about it, you're going to spend somewhere close to 25,000 hours sleeping on a mattress over its typical lifetime, so maybe cutting corners to save money doesn't seem quite so palatable.

Anyway, solid foam (inc. memory foam) mattresses are well-known for their heat retention and if you're a hot person (as I am) then I would strongly advise avoiding them. A well-designed pocket spring/foam combo should allow ventilation of the foam topper and help to reduce this effect.

Another tip is to not make the bed when you get up. Throw the covers open and let it air for an hour or two each day. This should help any sweat (we all lose water while sleeping) evaporate and also provide a less friendly environment for bed bugs. If you're having problems with the mattress rotting then you're keeping it covered up too much.

Anyway, four weeks after getting my bed I'm very pleased with it so far. I've had feather toppers for years though and they work in a similar way so I've got used to how to roll over on them, and I've always been one for throwing the bedcovers off due to getting too warm, so I'd not notice any difference. :)

i use a tempur matress and pillows, love them. great for my body always feel much more refreshed. having said that at my other house i have normal springs - quite an expensive matress - and i dont feel that different there... so really if you are going to get something, go either way (you will prefer one way or another) and get the best you can - 'cause it makes a massive impact on your life.

at the moment i prefer tempur...

I have a pocket sprung with a 3" layer of memory foam. It's the best mattress I even bought. Paid £350 for a king size, and worth every penny.

Waterbed = broken back trust me.

We have a rather hard kingsize matress (normal), and two of those memory pillows. For the money I would say they are worth it.

Remember Ikea mattresses only fit Ikea beds... my bed frame is an Ikea and a normal double is slightly smaller... haven't got round to getting a new frame yet but will do :)

Waterbeds... would love one, but wouldn't one get awfully seasick during nookie?!

I bought a bed with a memory foam top layer mid last year.. They told me it would make the bed a bit hotter to sleep in but it hasn't affected me at all. I think its great, makes the bed feel so much more comfortable! :)
