Memory Foam Matteress

I got the top of the range Ikea mattress about 7 years ago and I have been really happy with it. We were looking at Tempur as my wife has back problems.

For people looking at Tempur there was a deal when we looked. If you had a diagnosed back complaint you could get a discount. I can't remember if it was a discount or some sort of cash from the NHS.

What a laughable statement.

Memory Foam requires heat to conform to your shape, when I researched the stuff I found people saying how it 'breaks down' over time, and gets too warm.

Latex allows heat to circulate throughout the mattress, and doesn't require heat to conform to your shape. Saying the word Con was wrong sorry, but Memory Foam seems old tech now.

You're entitled to your own opinion though, even if it sounds like you're on the tempur payroll :p

I think you'll find that most of the people who complain about heat are from US where they traditionally have divans for bedsteads, instead of proper bed frames. That doesn't allow the material to breath as much. Either way, I have one of these matresses and the heat is not really an issue.

As for breaking down over time, well they come with a 10 year guarantee so I can't see that being an issue even if it happens - just get it replaced.

I can assure you I'm not on their payroll :D but I've researched the company quite a bit.

EDIT: Just read the article you linked. I have to say that suggesting a product that costs 3x the price of another product has to be 3x as good is a bit ridiculous. Everybody knows that you pay more for incremental improvements. Spending more on a mattress won't be analogous to how better it is, it's just a bit better and you are willing to pay for it.

Anyway, the fact of the matter is that a lot of mattress manufacturers have been trying to get market share from Tempur for years now through mud-slinging and all that (apart from offering a better product apparently), and haven't achieved it. It can't be all down to advertising now can it? There is a new product in the US now that is making inroads into Tempur's market share simply because it's as good and slightly cheaper - as simple as that.

I had a memory foam topper on my old coil sprung mattress, that got fairly 'warm' and stuffy which I hate, I also find my girlfriends memory foam mattress (which is one big sheet of foam (can't be all memory foam at a guess) to be very warm.

Latex on the other hand I find to be very cool in comparison, and equally as comfortable!

This is all on normal 'slat style' beds, so the Divan will (as you suggested) make the problem even worse!

It's all down to personal preference in the end, I prefer a cooler bed. Can't stand a hot nights sleep!

I just found the chaps on that site to be very helpful when talking to them & they're honest! (Have you seen the video where there take apart one of their mattresses side by side with the 'MIRACOIL' mattress?!) It took me ages to actually choose which mattress to buy as nothing seems to make any sense in the mattress industry.

People buy based on names, and it makes far more sense to buy based on what's inside the mattress unit!!!

Anyhow, I hope that makes sense. Healthy discussion is always good :D

I have a 75% normal foam 25% memory foam on top and my god is it comfy. Yes it gets warm but it has never been "sweaty and really hot" as people are saying. I'd never go back to a normal one.

That's fair... I always thought they were a bit overpriced compared to others... however, when I've tried others (granted not eco-flex, to my knowledge)... they just haven't been anywhere near as good.

There are some pillow topped sprung things that I've quite liked too... I just always sleep best on this Tempur :)
