Hi all,

At a friends house with a prebuilt pc...

Taken the system apart and its a ms-7046 V1 mobo which brief google doesn't have a lot of info on. There are 4 x DDR slots, 2 currently are 512Mb Siemens PC3200

Can I put more memory in the other two slots or are they special?? It seems to be 4Gb max but two slots are purple and two are green. Its a noob question but are they special or would the spare Geil Value I have kicking around work? :)

Thanks,

The colour of the slots is to do with running the Ram in "Dual Channel" mode they make em colour coded to make it idiot proof in most cases.

if you fill em all up then it wont run in that mode anymore, but you will have a lot more ram :O

im not sure what percentage or performance you will lose im not even sure if its an AMD or Pentium type board but, if its A64 or socket A they lose a few % not being able to run in dual channel. I dont know much about Intel stuff.

Personally unless you are hardcore benchmarker or EXtr3m3 gamer, just put the ram in and see .

Its a P4 based system :)

Its a shop built jobby, PCI-E, via chipset but from what I can see its custom made and branded. advent/Medion type thing.

I'll give it a go and run some memtest, thanks. :)
