Just bought some new laptop memory thinking it would be a good idea to upgrade from 4gb to 8gb, checked on the manufacturers website which said 8gb was supported.

the ram that is already in the computer

is there any reason the new ram doesn't work?

when the old ram is in the laptop, the sleep light shows, the hard drive light starts going and the laptop starts, when the new ram is in, the sleep light shows, but no hard drive light and no MSI logo.

I'd now remove all references to the competitor...

Anyway, there is not much you can really do as it is a laptop. I'd return the RAM and get something like "KHX1600C9S3P1K2/8G" - 1600mhz but it will run 1333mhz fine, I've put a lot of 1600mhz RAM in laptops and it works fine.

Had a few sticks of "value select" before that were rubbish too.

Now that I have returned that ram, which one would be good to get from here?!

this is my laptop, as you can see on the specs it says 8GB is the limit for ram, i currently have 4gb and am looking to upgrade, it also says 1066, the ram in the machine now is 1333, i will go with whatever will work quite frankly, but it seems more complicated with laptops than desktops
