hello when i am playing Games after a couple of hours my memory will slowly rise to 99%usage slowing the entire system down until i have to reboot at the moment it has only been during battlefeild 4 and hardline as other games i play are mostly 8bit.

after i exit the game the memory stays high making it impossible to do anything, ive read many places that it is a win8.1+AMD card issue. but have also seen general memory leak threads suggesting chrome has some problems sometimes, although i tried with firefox and had the same problem

i am unsure if i just have too little RAM as idle after reboot my system is 30-40% add on to that a game like battlefield and it usually sits at 5-6gb in use during gaming until the problems arise

any help appreciated

my specs at the moment are
i5 3570k stock
R6950 2gb
8gb 1600'Mhz RAM

Looking at your sig, you've got the Gigabyte Z77-D3H. It does have Atheros Gigabit LAN, but the Gigabyte website doesn't say it's the Killer NIC.

8GB of RAM is fine and I don't think you should be running out of it. If you bring up task manager, which processes are hogging the memory?

Personally, I get memory leaks in firefox and chrome as well. I've always put it down to the software. I've also had instances where chrome/firefox doesn't exit properly and leaves a background process hogging RAM.

Hmm i just checked, your right its not specific, some of the atheros NIC's use the same driver as the killer nics tho

OP
Heres something to try,if it doesnt work,no harm done either way

Goto Search and type 'Regedit'
open the appand search for this location
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Services\Ndu\
In the right had window select the start entry and change its value to 4.

Then restart your PC.

I tried the Regedit thing before after seaching through google posts and it didnt seem to help

in task manager the highest few processes are chrome and spotify after battlefield but they seem to be normal in their usage, when i exit battlefield the process is left greyed out in te list though, but killing the process doesnt free any memory

the problem is that it is very inconsistent i can sometimes play with no trouble for a while and others it will happen after only a few rounds in game

umm im not sure tbh , if you mean my Virtual memory? its set to automatically manage but was also set to something like 8gb before i changed it to auto

ive heard theres no problem with Nvidia cards and the memory leak issue
and since im using a pretty old card (6950) maybe i could upgrade a little earlier to a 970
i was going to wait for the next cards to come out and upgrade then, but im having to restart my PC every 30-40 mins at the moment while playing battlefield

I used to get this with BF4 all the time with my 6970, there were loads of people posting issues with BF4 memory leaks, when I upgraded to my 290 the problem just stopped. Another mate had the same issue with his 6950, but i dont think the issue was specific to AMD. Sorry thats not hugely helpful.
