Memory Management in Android

My son has a Sumvision Cyclone Voyager 10.1 Tablet bought from OCUK with which he is very happy.

Our question is that we regularly get messages saying we are out of storage despite having over 10GB of free NAND storage.

The issue appears to be that Android holds all programs in RAM and when he has various apps open it fills up the RAM........
From research it appears that this is exactly what Android is supposed to do but if this is the case I am struggling to understand what it shows up as a warning message every time.

I asked for two reasons, 1) it annoys me and him and 2) I was thinking of an Android tablet for myself and am thinking I need more than 1GB RAM to avoid this very problem.

Comments?

Storage is not the same as RAM, 1GB of RAM is more than sufficient. The problem is more likely to be that the system partition is far smaller than the storage partition. If you're able to move any of the apps to the storage partition (usually labelled as 'SD Card' even though that's not what it actually is) that's your best bet.

OK, that makes some sense, I could not understand why it was saying storage was short when there is plenty left but as you say it does ask me to move Apps to the 'SD Card' but I did not want to do this as there is plenty NAND storage 16GB in total on the tablet.

I will try moving some Apps tonight and hopefully that will fix it.

Thanks!

Memory Management (Again)

Can someone help me please.

Based on the prior advice I thought I had sorted my issues but they have returned.

My issue is I am running out of space on the App partition despite having moved all the Apps that I can move to the SD Card, although this is actually still the internal storage.

The Tablet has 16GB NAND Storage. The App partition is 1GB.

My issue appears to be because of an App called DragonVale, I have moved the App to the SD card but the data remains on the App partition, this is 500mb at least.

So I see my options as a) somehow increased the App partition to say 3GB or b) somehow move the DragonVale data off the App partition.

Issue is despite searching on the web I have no idea how to do either of these, in fact it appears for DragonVale leaving the data is standard.

BTW uninstalling DragonVale is not an option as its my sons favourite game........

Alternatively can anyone recommend an alternative forum that could help me, I guess this really an Android issue rather than the actual tablet!

I find it really strange that even though you get people complaining that 9gb on the S4 isn't enough for all their apps you still get tablet makers only giving you 1gb that's a stupidly poor show.
If you decide to get a tablet spend a bit extra and get something like the Nexus 7 which doesn't have a separate partition for apps.
I know it doesn't help your issue but I fancied a little rant :D

Use a tool called Directory Bind to remap applications to the SD card that refuse to be moved via the Android OS.
