better way to put the question is My mother board supports DDR2 @ 667Mhz / 800 Mhz. can i use DDR2 1066Mhz ram and run it at 800Mhz in BIOS

my ram is just 4x kingston 1gb 800mhz. I want to overclock my cpu without having to drop the ram to 667mhz. now I can get better ram and have an higher OC without the risking ram fail

but if you are overclocking and set your 800mhz memory to 667 then if you overclock your fsb by 66mhz then your memory will be back running at 800 mhz (which for example would take an e6600 or q6600 from 2.4ghz to 3ghz).

do you need more headroom than this ? what board and chip are you using and how much do you want to overclock it ?

i am using a pentium D 940 right now but if post man ever get moving I will have a Q6600 witch I have been told will hit 4Ghz. after some playing with my Cpu the ram hit 1050Mhz ish and 1 stick failed. witch is why I want to run fast ram at a slow speed so after the OC it will be fast ram but withing safe limits

if your motherboard only accepts ddr2 667 or 800 i can't see it being a great overclocking board. to get a q6600 running at 4ghz your board would need to be able to do at least 444mhz fsb.

what motherboard do you have ?

can't answer that right now am not at home I think its an foxconn p9657aa rev2. I do know when entering fsb is says to enter a number from 150 to 600
