Memory Overclocking Gains On Hawaii With A 512 Bit Bus

That 3.9% will be even lower at 1080P though and this is by far the biggest increase ive seen so far. The next highest was 2%. You just don't need to overclock the memory on 512 bit bus in most (but not all) situations. I will test Sleeping Dogs at some point. That used to net me 10% extra performance on a 384bit bus with my 7970 going from 1375mhz-1875mhz.
On the sensible and logical side, I agree with you that in real world gaming my 290x with poor memory clock probably ain't gonna be much worse in actual performance than those that can clock to 6000MHz+, but on the psychological side, I am feeling really bad to get a card that is such a poor clocker on the memory that's below average, considering it was a big upgrade for me, and I wanted it to be perfect (not expecting top clocker, but would want at least to be up to average standard) :p

I mean I would usually considering myself a logical person, and I know the figures on the on the performance difference is not big, but the psychological side of things is doing my head in (and Gibbo continuously quoting 6600MHz+ clock certainly doesn't help lol). I mean 5500MHz comparing to average 6200 to high range 6600-6800MHz is kinda hard to swallow.

Sell it on then and get one of these or these. The MSI's have Hynix memory and the Sapphires breach 1200 core clock at low temps for fun. Unless of course you only want to replace it with a 290X. You'll probably get a good price for it with the miners on Ebay.

Na...don't really trust selling stuffs on the bay considering how it's sided with the buyer.

The likeliness of me bothering with selling it off is far lesser than me going crazy and buy another 290 to crossfire :p

But the realistic need of upgrading my PSU is probably one of the thing keeping my sanity in check and holding me back from doing that :p

If you buy another 290 and don't upgrade that god damn i5 i will hunt you down. That's a promise. :D

To be fair though once you get 290 crossfire you don't need to overclock any more, not for games anyway.

Don't forget im only on a 750W PSU so it can be done. Just don't expect to be breaking any overclocking records unless you have a 1000W PSU.

I'll upgrade my CPU when Intel stop milking us or if AMD bring out better bang for bucks than Intel :p

Until then, I hope Mantle would make my i5 able to hold 100fps+ for mt 120Hz monitor.

Well it should help in BF4 and Thief thats for sure.

If you're talking BF4 then try 2x MSAA instead of 4. I get averages very close to 120 doing this with a minimal drop in IQ :).

Your card should perform similarly to mine.

Amd have done a good balance between core and memory Hz on R9.
512Bit helps on high resolutions.

Of course I like to see memory up as core goes up.

Tomb raider @ 5760x1080 quality ultimate.
1200/1250 vs 1200/1625.

8% plus on minimum
4.5% plus on average

zpaf i asked for 1500 vs 1625 as in my case 1500 is sweet spot and anything over was showing less fps or same up to 1700mhz in 25mhz steps.
So 1525 was lower than 1500 for example cause of memory errors.

So after running benchmarks with +25mh steps i went back from 1650 to 1500 as it was giving me same fps in 3d or even less.

You've lost me...
Don't understand that sentence at all? :p

My 290s are definitely not delivering more than enough performance! Quite disappointed with them really.

On a side note, surely any gain is better than nothing?

You're in the minority there though.

I lost 25MHz from memory :p to pass this. :D
Hitman Absolution @ 1080p maxed out.

I had locks at 1625 no blank screens.
So I think that Hawaii @ 1300 is better than hynix @ 1700+ :D

So do I have high expectations or do you have low expectations?

I didn't expect my 670s to beat my 290s in the benchmarks or games I've tried.

Happy to run some comparisons if you show me your 670 sli scores and ill show you what you should be getting. :)

I've just realised that it was my 7950 CF that my 670 SLI beat in Heaven. My brand new AMD cards were able to beat my last gen Nvidia cards.

It's Metro 2033 that's causing me the most issues. What results did you actually get?
BF4 seems a bit hit and miss with regards to 290 CF performance.
Planetside 2 performance seems pretty poor though.

What results are you getting on those games and benches with the 290 CF?

It would be very easy to tell you if those results are right or not if we know what they are, certainly a 670 SLI beating a 290 CF seems very very wrong.
