My computer works fine, but out of interest I was browsing info on my motherboard (an Asus B85M-G). I came across the following review which states:

"Four memory slots are provided for a maximum of 32GB of DDR3 RAM, although, despite the colouring of the slots, you should place your RAM sticks in consecutive rather than alternate slots; doing the latter will result in your computer failing to boot or running in single-channel mode."

I've checked the memory placement on the board and the sticks are placed in the two black (i.e. non-yellow) slots - which according the review is the wrong placement.

However, my computer boots up fine and according to the Memory tab on CPU-Z the 'Channel #' is 'Dual'.

Is the review wrong or am I missing something?

Maybe they had a faulty board. To be honest that site is kind of spammy and I wouldn't trust it for PC hardware reviews.

The correct position for RAM is same-colour (i.e alternating) slots for dual-channel mode.

Apologies for resurrecting this, but I was looking at buying 16GB of memory and realised I had the same confusion. So, thanks for your original reply which clarified it for me!
