New build 9600X with crucial 6000 memory.
CS2 crashed direct to windows. Nothing overclocked yet. All done is set memory in bios to expo1 which matches memory settings.
Read the 9600x only supports 5600 speed but also read others state can run 6000 fine.
Is there some other settings in bios I need to make?
Mobo is asrock b850-a pro wi-fi
Paired with 9700xt

TIA

Are your DIMMS on this list with the corresponding BIOS number ?

Officially: yes, 5600 is the max speed for 2 sticks (here, under connectivity, 2x1R and 2x2R), but unofficially almost all CPUs should run 6000.

CS2 crashed direct to windows.
How do you know that's a memory problem? Does this not happen when EXPO is disabled?

It is an assumption at the moment as rest is stock and temps seem fine. All drivers up to date and latest bios.
Sons PC I built for him but don't get much time on it myself to diagnose

Memory was on auto before I put to expo, also crashed CS2 on that, but quicker. He had said it crashes almost straight away but let's him play for a while if just reloads.
Consistently crashes though.

You helped with the spec and queries

CTDs are often bad memory or instability, but they're not always. They can be anything really, including graphics drivers, settings, other apps being open, who knows.

The only way to check for sure, would be to run memory tests and see if you get any errors. This ideally would need to be done with EXPO off and on.

If the memory was unstable, I'd normally expect more than just a CTD in one game, e.g. BSODs. Do other games work, or is this the only game played?

Might be worth a browse on forums and such for CS2 CTDs, since it could be a known issue.

I think he has played fortnite as well, but not as much and he not mentioned that crashing.
I will find a slot to run memtest64 on it with both settings.
Could be a CS2 thing. As its a new build he not done much with it yet, mostly CS2 with his friends.

Sounds like a plan.

What you described, about how it immediately crashes and then he can play for awhile, does sound suspicious, like it could be a software problem.

Have you checked in the event viewer around the time of the crashes?

I assume the graphics card is not overclocked?

Ahh.
