Ive got a new rig (see signature) including 4x1gb total of the following ram:

GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC2-6400C4 800MHz Ultra Low Latency DDR2 Dual Channel Kit

when i built my system last night with my ram in it wouldnt post (all4gb) so i just tried 1 stick and eventually it posted and i got into bios. whilst swapping my ram about i found that one stick just wouldnt work whether it be on its own or with other sticks present.

I ran memtest on the ram stick on its own plus dualed with another to be sure and left it running for around 44-50 mins but no errors.

I know that the timings were set correctly to 4-4-4-12 and i made sure the voltage was within working range 1.9-2.3v

I also made sure it wasnt a bad ram socket using the other ram modules.

Anyone got any ideas please

regards

Jody

What is your FSB? 266MHz?

Try the timings of 5-5-5-18 first.

If your Memory ratio is set to 2/3, then it could be that the memory is running at the quoted 800MHz. If this is so, then the memory timings need to be 5-5-5-18.

For some reason, this is the stock timings for 800Mhz despite them quoting 4-4-4-12 ??

yes, but what voltage specificaly are they set at ? it can make quite a difference - check your timings and speed against the spd values in cpu-z, set the voltage manually in the BIOS. i'm guessing you might want 2.1V.

My P35C DS3R over volts the memory by 0.1 so watch out.

You can check with speedfan (IIRC) to confirm the voltage (check posts in this forum to explain where to look)

I had exactly the same problem as this with my RAM

All the sticks of RAM worked individually and in different slots but I couldn't get the whole 4GB to work together.

I tried setting the clocks to 5-5-5-18 at 266MHz and increasing the voltage to 2.3v which would allow me to boot to windows but i'd get a blue screen as soon as I tried to run anything.

Someone mentioned you may need to increase your north bridge voltage with 4 sticks of RAM, but that didn't seem to work for me either.

I just gave up in the end and stuck with the 2GB
