Hi guys,

I bought 2x 1GB GSkill PC6400 sticks a while ago to add to my current 2x 1GB sticks. I have only just got around to installing them, but when I install the sticks Windows won't boot. I tried just installing one stick at a time, same thing happen - just crashes when attempting to boot Windows.

So, I dug out a Linux CD, booted that and ran memtest - page after page of errors. It does this with both new sticks. I'm running a Q6600 on an abit IP35 board. No overclocks.

Any ideas? I mean I can survive on 2GB but I really would like the 4GB, seeing as the sticks are brand new and paid for. :(

Any ideas, links etc. appreciated,

Thanks very much.

In my experience mixing brands is usually not such a great idea, as the tend to use different chips etc.

Running 4 sticks will slow your system down anyway, better off getting 2x2gb if you want to run 4GB.

Ugh shine a light. I think I might just stick with 2GB for now and go with 4 as and when I need to when the prices are cheaper. Not that they are particularly expensive now, it just stings having to bin my faulty ones. Feels a little like throwing good money after bad.

Cheers anyway.
