Memory recommendations PLEASE

An ASUS Commando m/b and a E6700, with all the different timings and makes it’s difficult to decide, just simple want a nice stable system, maybe a little over clocking but not essential

Really would get the E6600, then look at memory with a bigger budget as you will be saving £120.
 
If you just need good'n'stable then the G.Skill stuff on special at £97 would do fine. It'll allow a 1:1 overclock upto 400MHz (that's 2.8-4GHz on your processor depending on the multiplier, so it should be plenty). It's not the tightest timings in the world at 5-5-5-15. If you want something a bit tighter then the OCZ 2GB (2 x 1GB) PC2-6400 Dual Channel Platinum Revision 2 XTC Series on the front page of OcUK is excellent value at £116 for 4-4-4-15.

Any particular reason why? I didn't recommend it because it requires a significantly higher voltage to run CAS4 than the OCZ (2.1V vs. 1.9V) and that means they run hotter than the OCZ.

You could make a case for going PC5300 with very tight timings as it's unlikely you'd get to PC6400 speeds if you're using the 10x multiplier.

This Crucial Ballistix kit is CAS3 and uses Micron chips that are only fractionally less hand-picked ( :rolleyes: ) than the Crucial Anniversaries. Excellent value at £130 and because it's Crucial you know you'll get them RMA'd in 48 hours unlike Corsair/GeIL/OCZ/Cellshock/G.Skill that all have lifetime warranties and have to be RMA'd internationally and can take 4-6 weeks IF you can get hold of their customer service departments.
 
I have an asus commando and bought some Crucial Ballistix PC-5300... it runs happily at 500mhz 4-4-4-18 in this board. I originally had some GEIL PC-6400 Ultra Low Latency stuff and it just didnt like it for some reason, at stock it was fine but try overclock even 50mhz and it wouldnt post.

Tbh you need memory that will definitely go well over 900mhz for the e6300 to get the most out of the cpu.

And although the p5n will let you run them out of sync, you still don't want your memory to be running slower than the fsb.
 
Many thanks for all your help I tried ordering the OCZ 2GB PC2-6400, but the order failed so I have emailed OCUK, but thanks for the help and advice it is appreciated
