the memory is, Corsair Vengeance 16GB DDR3 1600MHz Dual/Quad Channel Kit

its running as dual channel at the moment and the dram frequency seems low. can this be changed easily in bios?

Yea should be able to, go through your BIOS and it will be under DRAM frequency (or somethink like that).

What Motherboard do you have?

Dan

Once you done this in the BIOS, CPU-Z will show 800mhz, you will need double what this shows.

any1 know if i should enable the "Xtreme Memory Profile"

or should i just change the dram frequency from auto to 1600mhz

i also cant see how i change the setting from dual channel to quad channel.

thanks for replys

Yes, just enable XMP.

The memory controller only supports up to dual channel, it doesn't matter what the RAM kits says, what channel it runs depends on the memory controller.

As Orcvader said, quad channel RAM will only run in dual-channel if using a SB/IB processor, since the memory controller on these CPUs only supports dual channel. When it says quad-channel on the RAM, this simply means that it is certified to run in a quad-channel configuration, provided that your CPU memory controller supports this (SB-e processors have quad-channel memory controllers). In the real world though, quad channel memory has little performance difference compared to dual channel anyway.
