memory setting

Hi all. Just been getting into system building for a bit of something to do really. Basically my computer has been freezing completely randomly which i have eventually traced down to the wrong Memory settings. I have no idea to manually set the values. Where can i find out what these all mean as i would like to learn. Alternatively if anybody would be sooo kind to help me out it would be much appreciated.

Motherboard is M4a785TD-V evo
Processor is Phenom II X4 965
Memory is 2 x 2GB Corsair 1333
In the bios (latest version) i have the following options and they confuse the hell out of me:

Memory clock value - auto / manual
Memclock value - 400, 533, 667, 800
DRAM timing - Auto, DCT0, DCT1, BOTH

memory over voltage

I know the memory is stated as being 1.5v, but thats all i know.

Shouldnt i have a 1333 in the first option?

If you leave memory clock value on auto it should be fine, unless you have a dodgy stick, in which case it doesnt matter what settings you go for its not going to work, if you bought them recently you could rma them, to check this ensure its set to auto and download and run memtest, if you get any errors then somethings wrong and they need returning
If you dont then you can tweak your settings, re the voltage firstly, again you need to download everest ultimate and run that from windows which should then tell you what voltage your memory is running at, so long is its 1.5 dont worry about your last setting of memory over voltage, if its undervolting for some reason then increase your voltage by the difference, this is most likely to be the cause
re the rest of the settings, most of them you can ignore, Id strongly recomend leaving DRAM timing on auto (its pretty advanced to start tweaking these, and uber time consuming) and Id recomend having a read of the overclocking guides here and elsewhere which should give you a better idea of what youre doing with the other settings, if you still have problems post back
good luck

Have left the settings on 533 and 1.5v for now. Seems to be running fine. Will see what happens over the next few days then i definately know its memory related as it was freezing daily.

I will do a bit of reading. Possibly try memtest and everest. Thank-you.

If the ram is still playing up and the voltage is correct, run Memtest on each individual stick (remove the other) to check for any errors.

Often the sticks will have a label one them that gives the correct voltage and reads something like 5-5-5-18, the first digit being CAS latency. The auto settings should correspond to the figures on the label. If the numbers are off, some tweaking may be needed to stabalise things. As long as you don't go past the recommended voltages then you can't do any real harm ;)
