Where are all the DDR2 memory gone?

There are still people out there (like myself) building computers for kids, offices or people who just want to surf the web. And I'm not after the latest and greatest technology, I just want a cheap but decent build. However, the only RAM in stock are about £100, the cheap ones are either not in stock or not listed at all. Where the RAMs that cost under £40 for DDR2 2GB gone? You guys used to have shed loads in stock. If I have to pay £100 for RAM, a budget build would cost me at least £300. Here is an example budget spec:

£25 Case
£40 PSU
£60 CPU
£40 Board
£15 DVDRW
£40 HDD
£100 RAM <- the big blower

Total £320

Supply & demand.

Luckily I managed to get 8gb for about £110 and each 4gb kit was £40 after that. Now it does cost a lot!

DDR2 is slowly being phased out and I remember reading that DDR3 is also cheaper to manufacture. As there are less companies making DDR2, those that still do have a licence to print money in effect. I would start buying up 2nd hand kits if I were you :)

i picked up 4gb second hand for £30 and the one i had before was only £35 so in total i got 8gb for £65, wish i could add more but motherboard has a limit, damn wish they would left these limits or maybe a way around it

Comon OcUK, heres your chance to buy a bulk of DDR2 from your local car-boot....... test and sell them to us. :)

i've always considered OcUK more of a specialist/enthusiast store, so they dont really stock much in the way of budget gear.

i doubt they sell it in sufficent quantitys to make it worth while buying

i've used OcUK to buy shed loads of office pc components, as well as building the spec in my sig 4 years ago. So I think OcUK can and should always cater for both the enthusiasts and budget builds.
