Ive had two sets of defective 16gb TeamGroup Vulcan Ram and was wondering if anyone could suggest a a good alternative?

I was looking at Avexir Venom Series 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3 PC3-17200C9 2133MHz Dual Channel Memory Kit. Would these do the job?

You tried each stick of ram on it's own and each set had 1 dud out of 4?

Or you put all the stick in each time and only 12gb was showing up?

Did you try 1 stick at a time or did you put all 4 sticks in at once only?

I need to know how you went about using and testing your sticks of ram before I can talk about other things, see. It is not uncommon for 4 sticks of ram to need some voltage tweaking to get it to run stable. Also sometimes incorrect cpu heatsink fitting can cause one of the ram slots to freak out, etc.

Ok, sorry for not being clear. i have 2 sets on separate occasions. with the 1st set, i added both sticks to the board and had constant BSOD until i took the broken one out. I tested the broken one in all 4 slots and had the same issue. I sent the pack back for a refund.

The 2nd set turned up, plugged them both in and all was fine for a few days, then out of the blue i had the BSOD again. Again, i tested in all slots and found the same issue.

So as ive had bad luck with both sets I was looking to getting another make

Hope this clears it up?

Interesting you mentioned that the heatsink could be the cause!! Would that not freak both sticks out though?

I have loaded XMP and increased the DRAM volts to 1.65v as suggested by 8 pack

I was thinking more along the lines of QPI/VTT voltage but if you have tested ram in slots and then known working ram in slots to decide if one of the slots is not working then (short of worrying about xmp profiles setting some things too high, seen it happen, or having a faulty motherboard and either way damaging your ram) then I guess I might have one last shot at using just two of the ram slots with x2 8gb sticks, yeah.

Im going to try re-doing the heatsink on the weekend. Just a question, 8n pack said i should the check primary timings and speed is correct. Can someone walk me through this?

Failing this, i'll be getting the avexirs.

What 8-pack meant was - After enabling the XMP profile, make sure that the settings it has changed for you actually match the listed settings for the ram!

This is what the 'should' part of his advice meant :)

XMP profiles are not to be trusted until checked. Once you know that your ram sets stuff correctly you can then trust the XMP profile in the future. If you catch my drift.

There are many guides on the net on how to set ram up.

For what it is worth mate - have you done a minimum build outside of your case too? It is best to check these things out of case first. I know it is a pain after but still, it is one thing extra to rule out.

Don't tighten your heatsink too tight when you do, or if you are on stock cooler make sure all the 'pegs' are working/undamaged.
