Memory testing, lack of performance from 667 - 1066 ram

I have just upgraded from 3gb of 667mhz ram to 2gb of 1066 OCZ reaper, i have it set up according to OCZs recommendations and since installing it i have noticed a major performance decrease. my pc can no longer multi task, i get major lag after closing anything really demanding, until about 2 mins after closing it i cant do anything else. i am trying to find out if there is a problem with one of my modules, both sticks are recognized and at idle windows says its using about 650 / 2046 mb.

Advice would be appreciated

is it vista or xp? if its vista u may need to give it a week so it can do its SuperFetch rebuild

yes its vista, so i may yet see an increase in performance? i will wait then.

go you've gone from 3gb to 2gb, surely that's a downgrade? :confused:

i know in the case of the multi tasking that thats probably why its lagging but hardware monitors show that its only using about 1200mb. i was expecting single programs to run a bit faster tho due to a 50% increase in the speed of the ram.

RAM is not that important. Intel processors are built with large caches to inimise RAM acceses and latency i think.

RAM quantity is far more important than speed usually.

it will once SuperFetch rebuilds. i went from 2gb to 4gb and it took about aweek or 2 to get the programs back loading fast.
