memory upgrade = kernel panic...?!

since upgrading from 4gb to 8gb using the crucial kit i seem to have gone from a rock solid system to frequent kernel panics - probably 6 in the last 4 weeks, 2 of which have been today. anyone else experienced issues post-upgrade?
 
Yep, i have at work a couple of times with Mac Pros. Happened when mixing different RAM and a separate issue where the memory was faulty.
 
Taken a look at Console and the crash reports. Particularly the panic logs? Could be as simple a poorly seated stick, a bad stick or something entirely unrelated to RAM.
 
i've just reseated the memory so i'll keep an eye on it and take a closer look at the logs. worth registering a potential issue with crucial at this stage? it seems they will only offer a refund up to 45 days after purchase, after that you're stuck with warranty replacement...
 
What hardware? My macbook pro 2009 does it with 8GB installed but its fine with 4GB. Chips are 2 x 4GB 1333MHz. Both pass memtest fine.

Whilst googling around for a solution, I came across an article that said anything more than 6GB on a 2009 model with nvidia graphics might cause kernel panics.
 
this is a mid-2010. when i reseated the memory there was a tiny sliver of grey plastic on one of the contacts, gave the area a quick blow to get rid of any debris and re-seated it...and i know this sounds bloody stupid but since i've started using it again everything just seems much snappier. wondering if it just wasn't seated properly in the first place. fingers crossed!
 
I swapped out the 4gb in my iMac (2 x 2gb sticks) for 4 x 4gb crucial sticks and have had 0 issues.

Did you mix your crucial ram with your original stuff ?
 
nah, it had 2x 2gb in it, i upgraded to 2x 4gb so a complete swap for matching crucial sticks. i think the reseat might have sorted it, it's been rock solid since.
