Memory upgrade Q

If this was a Sandy bridge system I would have said yeah, go for it, as timings and speed make no difference.

Unless I'm misunderstanding you stulid, why should he go for the upgrade if the timings/speed make no difference?

Looking at his Sig, its not sandybridge.

Theres plenty of RAM guides for Sandybridge systems that all say the same thing, just get 1600mhz RAM with whatever timings C8,C9 etc.

Ah fair enough, didn't check the sig. I just assumed Sandy Bridge, it seems to be consuming my entire head at the moment :P

That's what i was thinking as well, but i guess there will be an improvement by doubling the ram from 4GB to 8GB

Fail - didn't realise they were different capacities *facepalm*
I would get the 8GB

The sandybridge ram guides at Xbitlabs and bit-tech all come to the same conclusion,

1600mhz ram and modest timings is all you need.

But the OP's rig is something else.

Thanks :)

Thanks for the replies.

Yeah, I'm not on sandybridge - P55 mobo. I've read the reports that speed makes little difference on SB, but is that the same on 1156? Would the extra capacity offset the lower speed?

For that price I'm seriously thinking about it (got until 6pm to decide)

get higher capacity and OC?

Just checked cpuz and my current overclock has the RAM running at 1700mhz. Here's another Q: Would the Crucial 1600mhz spaz out at that speed?
