Memory Upgrade Question

I have 2 x 512MB RAM and on my motherboard, I got 4 slots, 2 blue and 2 black:
Like this (Obviously not my motherboard but kinda the same)

Now am I right in thinking you put 1 512MB in each BLUE slot to make 1GB?
I did have 1 in a black and 1 in a blue but my pc was slow so thought i had done it wrong...

help??? lol

I don't think it really matter to be honest your pc will see the same amount of ram and use it the same. Only benefit i can think of would be slightly better cooling with them being spaced further apart.

If the mobo is capable of running DUAL channel then you need the ram in the SAME colour ram slots to enable this performance boosting technology afaik.
