Hi, I'm looking for a solution to access all my installed physical memory -

Installed Physical Memory (RAM) 32.0 GB
Total Physical Memory 15.9 GB
Available Physical Memory 6.38 GB
Total Virtual Memory 22.4 GB
Available Virtual Memory 9.79 GB
Page File Space 6.50 GB
Page File C:\pagefile.sys

I have relatively old pc here and was hoping to get a bit more out of it for a bit longer...
On the advice of OC I searched and found the identical memory that was in the original PC they had built as they did not stock anymore...

Team Group Elite Black 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C11 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit TPKD316G1600HC11DC01

The memory installed is working perfectly... I have verified this by swopping out old with new and different configurations in the 4 slots - with only 2 new sticks in it is the same as original setup 2 x 8GB - no matter how it is mixed I cannot get the 32GB to be seen in windows. The actual RAM is properly seated.

The BIos sees it fine. I have the latest version for this MB. I am not sure I can change any settings in there or what to use there at this point...

I have run mem tests.

I have tried everything I have found online to fix the issue from changing the page filing in Performance Settings to changing memory allocation at Boot in MSconfig. I even tried modifying the registry HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management to no avail...

Below is my system:

System Manufacturer MSI
System Model MS-7693
System Type x64-based PC
System SKU To be filled by O.E.M.
Processor AMD FX(tm)-8350 Eight-Core Processor, 4000 Mhz, 4 Core(s), 8 Logical Processor(s)
BIOS Version/Date American Megatrends Inc. V10.6, 08/01/2016
SMBIOS Version 2.7
Embedded Controller Version 255.255
BIOS Mode Legacy
BaseBoard Manufacturer MSI
BaseBoard Product 970A-G43 (MS-7693)

Any help would be appreciated...

Thanks

Type 'System Configuration' from the windows search, and load System Configuration

Select Boot from top menu

Select Advanced options

Look at Maximum memory, and make sure it's unchecked.

If checked, then uncheck it, then reboot Windows.

Select Task Manager --> Performance --> Open Resource Monitor

In Resource Monitor --> Memory Tab

Look at the chart under Physical Memory. Is there any memory showing as hardware reserved, if so how much is showing?

There is another memory chart that's inside the Resource Monitor (resource monitor is separate to task manager).

However you have already answered it for me, the 16.1 GB of hardware reversed is your issue.

One likely reason is some of your memory is damaged.

For the next test you have to run a memory diagnostic.

Type 'Windows Memory Diagnostic' into the search bar.

Select --> Restart now and check for problems

The computer will reboot and test your memory.

There is a quick memory test, and a slower memory test. Just try the quick one to start with.

Once you have done this report the total memory the Windows Diagnostic reports, and any errors that are found.

To confirm you have done this memory test with memory in place exactly as it is now? In other words memory has not been removed / reseated after you did the test?

Sorry to be long in replying ( I took Suddenly ill ) I ran the mem test twice - No errors at all on both times.

It's perfectly fine it's ok.

The only other thing I can think of at the moment.

Go back into system configuration, look at the Maximin Memory tab, this time check it, then make sure there is 32GB in there, I think the number should be 32768.

@JasonM Not that I can possibly think of - this BIOS seems quite limited compared to some of the latest I have seen on YouTube - however it is reading the 32GB no problem - not much in here except external drives and external graphics card. I just haven't been able to figure out what could be doing it on a BIOS like this.

@Quartz yes way over, I checked with OC support before buying the drives and RAM to be sure it would be compatible - On their advice I even bought matching RAM... pretty flummoxed as to why I cant get at that reserved for hardware...

To confirm again, the windows memory diagnostic detected and tested 32GB?

EDIT.

Another idea. Can you run CPU-Z, and take a screen shot of the Memory tab screen, and also screen shots of the SPD tab screen. On the SPD screen it would help to take a screen shot of each memory Slot thats in use, so your case 2 memory slots. I want to see exactly what memory is being reported.

Download from here - look for Setup English half way down the screen.

@JasonM will do.. standby - Q how do you place images up here - do you use something like pastebin for the URL images? Im afraid I haven't done that for years and am a little bit out of practise as to what the current flavour of pastebin equivalent is :)
