What 4x512 sticks are you running, that might help us for starters!

Also, Dell systems can be a bitch to upgrade.... you are warned! Chances are your motherboard may not output enough volts to support high end ram, which means it will default to lower setting (defying the point of the purchase). Replacing the Mobo will be an arse as Dell use proprietary mobo dimensions and configurations.

Also, unless you are running VERY inferior ram (not out of the question with Dell), then the diff between 4x512 and 2x1GB is probably not as big as you think. You may well find better return on investment to upgrade your Gfx card? Especialy if you are doing Gaming and video editing!

hi ya

i currently have 2 ddr2 pc2 3200,
and 2 ddr2 pc2 5100,

i know they will only run at the first,

also i have a x1800xt 512mb graphics card which i will be upgrading soon,

i know dell can be a pain to do anything to it but will be doing a build in the summer.

that's pretty good, but they should have stickers on them.

In that case, you have some good quality ram already that it would be a shame to throw out! Do you have CPUZ to tell you what they are? Ideal case would be to buy another DDR2 667 matching set to go with the one already..... hell of a lot cheaper than buying a 2x1GB set eg:

Crucial Ballistix 1GB (2x512MB) DDR2 PC2-5300C3 667MHz Dual - £105.74
Crucial Ballistix 2GB (2x1GB) DDR2 PC2-5300C3 667MHz Dual Channel - £176.24

Either that, or sell BOTH sets you currently have and get some 2x1GB!

hi ya

i used that cpuz and under memory it says

freq 199.5
fsb:dram 1:1
cas 3.0
ras to cas delay 3
ras precharge 3
cycle 9

soz if i sound dumb but havent done much ram onverclocking < as you can tell>

also under curcial it says its 5300 but under cpuz it says 4300 266mz
thats the higher ram, any help from an idiot welcome :)

as i was asking what would be the be the best upgrade for me to do!!

lee

also if any thing else you need to know let me know

good, you are running Crucial DDR2 667Mhz, has it got yellow Heatspreaders? If so you have Crucial Ballistix:
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-089-CR

buy another 2x512, or sell the current one and use that and the cash you would have spend to get some decent 2x1GB Crucial 10th, or Team PC6400C4

It is currently underclocked to run in sync with your PC3200..... a hefty 133mhz underclock... you will get seriosu boots from upgrading!
