Newbie here

1/Got a Asus P5AD2 motherboard , at the mo got 2 x 512 OC2-533 Ballistic memory in banks 1 and 2, I want to upgrade , can i add 2 x 1gb of the same memory , same speed in banks 3 and 4 making upto 3 gb of memory or am i safer just putting 2 x 512 instead

2/The memory i have is 1.9v ( according to the box that they came in ), could i put memory of a differant voltage in,

Cheers

Thanks

On the old memory box memory description it says 1.9v , the new memory is 2.2v , will this be a problem

What mem do you have and what do you plan to get?

If you have generic RAM then I won't try to overvolt it too much.

Branded RAM will generally take 2.1 - 2.2 no problems with the high performance kits requiring upto 2.4V to run properly.

In your case I'd try 2.1V first to see if the new sticks will work.

Hi

At the moment i have Crucial 2 x 512PC2-5300 BALLISTIX DDR2 - 667 1.9v in banks 1 and 2

and i was going to put in

Crucial Ballistix 2GB (2x1GB) DDR2 PC2-5300C3 667MHz Dual Channel Kit 2.2V in banks 3 and 4

to give me 3GB of memory in total

Cheers and thanks for the advice

HI again

Just checked on Crucial web site and they have the same memory module BL2KIT12864AA663 to fit my board as OC do to upgrade

Just a bit unsure my board says upto 2.1 v and yet this module is 2.2v

So can i run the 2 x 512 in banks 1 and 2which is 1.9v and the new memory in banks 3 and 4 which is 2.2v

Would i have to manually change the voltage settings or would the board auto detect the voltage settings

Giving me a total of 3gb in my Asus P5AD2 motherboard

Cheers again

Yes you will need to manually change the DRAM voltage.

However whatever voltage you set in BIOS applies to all 4 banks I'm afraid. You should go into bios first and see what voltage values are available.

If it only goes upto 2.1V in practice it will probably still work with a 2.2V kit.

Why not consider this:

It's default value is 1.8V so should work with your current sticks perfectly. Only thing is on this week only deals you can get a 2Gb PC6400 kit for less.
