Running MemTest on a new build, from a USB stick.

Downloaded the latest MemTest (ver 4.20) last night - the USB installer.

It is running now but it is reporting the RAM as

DDR640 Cas 1,3,3,3

My RAM is 1600MHz 9,9,9,24 - as per the RAM label and the BIOS

Is this a known reporting glitch or is MemTest really running the RAM really relaxed?

I did some googling and found a few people posting similar, but the responses were all - run the latest version of MemTest (I am) and update the BIOS (I have the latest installed).

Cheers,

Nigel

Just for clarity, this is MeTest+ downloaded from here

Supplementary question.

Have downloaded the latest Beta (5.0 RC1) for MemTest+.

This is showing memory better.

It show the paramenters correctly - 9,9,9,24

It is reporting DDR3 rather than the DDR2 that the latest stable version reports.

But it is showing a speed of 739 (1478) rather than the expected 800 (1600).

It also shows BLCK = 92

As I understand it, BLCK is the percentage of base clock frequency - 92% in this case.

So (739 x 100)/800 = 92.375 - so BCLK of 92 stacks up.

Does this mean that my memory is running underclocked (can't see anywhere in the BIOS where this is the case but could the XMP be doing it) or is it just another mis-report by memtest+?

Are there any alternative RAM test tools I can try.

Not installed an OS yet - basically I want to soak test the RAM before I finish the build and start installing anything.

Cheers,

Nigel

Its Memtest usually dont worry just run it!!! Only be bothered out a failed pass.

Memtest is the best RAM testing tool as it excludes the OS and drivers and tests all addresses on the sticks.

Once you get into OS check all the values for BLK maintimings of RAM etc using CPU-Z.

Thanks for the reply.

I don't have an OS yet - don't even have a hard disk fitted yet.

So do you think the BCLK of 92 is a mis-report which I should ignore?

Thecrason I ask is that I need to decide whether to keep the RAM or exchange it for something else.

If it is running as advertised at 1600 9-9-9-24 then I'm happy and will keep it but if the XMP is forcing a slower setting that advertised than I am less so.

Cheers,

Nigel
