Merging Two Hard Drives Together?

Hey all,

I currently have a 1TB Samsung Spinpoint F3 hard drive.

If I buy a second one to make 2TB in total - Can I merge the two hard drives together so they are just one 2TB drive on my computer?

Is this a bad idea? Is this what RAID is (I've always wondered

)? Would it just be better to have two seperate drives?

I would not do it if you use a non redundant stripe and one drive fails you loose the lot.. just live with 2 drives...

You could raid0 them into a 2gb volume (so will appear as one drive)

But if one drive dies or has a hiccup, you'll lose all your data. I'd just use them as two drives and use Windows 7 libraries to your advantage

If your controller supports it, you can also do JBOD.
