Back with a Vengeance.
perhaps this question has already been put into practice and proved, but as I'm unaware of any such proof I thought I'd ask you.
reading your stuff over the last few years I've long since worked out for myself that you're pretty much unbiased and level headed so I await your reply.

your car+current model M3+track.

who wins?

Tight circuit - DC5.

Long sweeping circuit - M3.

Straight line up to 100/110 mph - DC5. 100/110mph up to top end - M3.

Main thing with the DC5 is the way it can switch direction. I've never driven anything so planted and razor sharp in my life.

Will really miss it. :(

Can the two be compared realistically?

Has the DC5 had mods spent? If so, surely its then fair to equip the M3 to a similar state of tune?

I'm not bashing, I perfectly agree with the above, but it needs to be done, tested, not talked about hypothetically.

A fair point, but it's likely a curiosity than apples to apples comparison.

Only thing (perhaps) to consider is the DC5 is only £16,000 brand new in Japan. An M3 costs what nowadays - £40k?

definitely going then?
specific replacement chosen ?

Yes and no, not yet.

I'm being a bit fussy - want comfort, refinement, space, half decent economy and something with a bit of grunt & nice handling.

What would be interesting is to take the cost of the M3 and buy a DC5 then use the change to mod it and compare the two

Funniest thing about the DC5 is the chasis.

It's from the Honda Stream - the MPV thing. Revised floorpan onto Stream chasis and away you go. Crazy.

I can certainly vouch for that. I'm not often impressed but the DC5 was one of the few cars I've been in which did that. It felt Eliselike in the way it gripped the road. For a FWD car that's a damn good compeiment!

Interesting, I thought that the DC5 was a good 1/2 slower on a 1/4 mile than an M3, with a terminal speed around the 100mph mark. 1/2 second is a reasonable distance at that speed (rough estimation of 22 metres difference).

Have you done a lot of other mods to your DC5 to improve it's straightline performance?

Cheers dude.

I know that the first person to come look at it is going to buy it. Atm I've got 3 guys in a mad panic to get to see it, one is struggling to get insurance below £2,000 and two have cars FS with viewings this week & both have said they'll let their cars go to a trader if they cant sell private.

Also have had close to 20 pm's asking me to sell them the mods, but I really cant be arsed with that. The car is set up as a package and despite the fact I could make another £300 splitting it down I just want it to go as a package.

I still think the car is worth every penny of £15k, but it's priced at £14k now to get it shifted. Proper pee'd off I just serviced it and taxed it for 12 months but isn't that always the way. :/

Yours all fixed up now with fresh paint?

Oh yes, looks better now that when it left the Lotus factory, Sinclaires have done a top job.

You know what my standards are like when it comes to bodywork and for the first time ever I've found a bodyshop that match them. Hopefully I'll never need to use them again but if anything unfortunate happened I know where I'd be going for paintwork.

Standard DC5 is a 1/4 in 14.29. But that's with a pretty terrible 0-60 foot being FWD. Terminal is 99mph on the DC5 as standard.

Mine's been decatted, induction & remap and weight saving etc so 1/4 in around 13.8/9 again with pretty rubbish 0-60ft but terminal 103 eaily.

Basically it's pretty crap 0-65mph but in 3rd gear it's off like a rocket.

Have upset E46 M3's in the past, but when you're talking about high speed that's when that M3 power really comes into play.

I read the price drop and was so so tempted. But cant see the S selling very quick and I know you need to shift it before you get the new one

I have 3 weeks to sell the DC5 so there's plenty of time really. 3 weeks I start to do some serious mileage so that's my deadline ideally. However, I do have a trick up my sleeve - there's a pool car here I can use for a while, Nissan Almera. Not exactly prestige but I'd rather run miles up on that POS than the Integra.

If you're interested - put the S2 up fs, priced right it may go in no time at all.

Traders love S2000's too. No idea what a Trader would want for it, may be insulting, may not - but always worth a go.
