Messaging thing

What's the best one to use? I had the MSN and new Beta program but they're so full of crap it's unreal...so many adverts, useless tabs etc. I want something simple and can connect to hotmail etc.

Tried that before, but can't keep up with the MSN updates and consquently the mess updates...too much to deal with
