Computer was working fine,

I purchased a water cooling kit and I fitted it up yesterday, when finished I went to power the system on and I csnt get my head around the problems

The GPU isn't receiving power, neither is the external fan controller but if I used the same molex that the working leds are plugged into and plug the fan contoller into it, it still won't work. The motherboard is receiving power and if I plug the fans into the motherboard fan connections they work....

I'm at a loss with what's going on?

Sounds like you forgot to plug something in. Dont know why you would take it out but is the 4/8 pin CPU lead plugged in ?

need more info and spec.

I water cooled the processor and the inno3d gtx 980ti, everything is plugged in! It's weird how a the molex that powers the leds won't power the fsn controller?

yeh, the fan cpu is plugged in! cant get photos at the moment sorry.

I have put the display port into the MB and it boots up but stops the safe mode etc page, ive plugged the mouse into the usb at the back and it lights the mouse up but the keyboard isnt getting power either.

Ive checked all connections last night, i am slowly beginning to think its the PSU, as its powering the leds and fan on the MB but not the external fan or the GPU!

Im praying i havnt fried my GPU as its only 2 month old!

What happens exactly when you switch need more info. eg does it post, does it beep, do the fans operate, are readout on the motherboard.

Its more likely you've damaged the CPU or GPU as those are the two items that you have made alterations too. As it boots into safe mode I dont think its your PSU.

You need to remove the GPU altogether and if it boots up okay its the TI.
What did you use to watercool it ? Did you add heatsinks to ram or VRM ? Check for shorts.

i7-2700k Quad Core (3.50GHz, 8MB Cache)
ASUS® P8Z77-V PRO
INNO3D GTX 980TI

it did red out on the MB but i sorted that, now it boots with no error light on the MB, When it boots the Asus screen comes up the the Option menu asking if i want to start in safe mode or recovery mode but i cant select anything as my KB is not getting any power!

The water cooling is EK S360 going to the CPU and GPU.

Once its at that point try plugging the keyboard into another USB slots.

Its safe to un-plug and move around the USB devices while the PC is on.

Another possible point could be if you have reset the BIOS some options may be incorrect. Check USB settings in BIOS.

Also look at SATA configuration, if that has changed from when the OS was installed you may get boot up issues.

I did move the HD to another slot thats pre wired but it boots of one of the SSD's.

I have tried moving the keyboard usb whilst it has power but it makes no difference!

Ive got a mate coming round later with a PSU tester

You need to go back to basics, and disconnect everything that is not required to boot into Windows. Especially the gpu, which I know is awkward when it's in a water loop but you need to rule it out.

ill attempt it soon and let you know how i get on, im praying its not the GPU as i bought it to future proof the system for the next few years as ive just bought a house so if it is the GPU its game over.

thanks for the help so far guys

If it was me I would start with the basics as said. Remove everything non-essential and all the cabling.

Plug in one cable at a time making sure it's fully connected until you have what is needed to make the PC boot and go from there.

are you sure you didn't get anything wet ?

yeah remove the graphics card and use a torch to check there are not any water droplets on the motherboard

I dont think its the power supply as they tend to just not turn on if they get wet, or sometimes they will fizzle and explode ( done that to a AX860 before )

hey guys, just booted up windows as normal and it worked with the display port into the MB,

plugged in the fan controller and got nothing, also the GPU still isnt receiving power!

something isnt right as i can take the led molex thats working and plug it into the fan controller and the fan controller wont work!

What make and model PSU are you using? Are you using PCI-E power connectors directly from the PSU (and if so, are they branched from the same cable or on different cables), or are you using molex-to-PCI-E adapters to power the GPU?

Have you double checked that you've plugged in both PCI-E power connectors into the GPU?
