Lo all,

I keep getting pop-ups on the G/fs PC. Ive tried running spyware progs etc but nothing helps, not sure what it is.
Messenger Service

Message from SECURITY to ALERT on date & time

STOP!
SCAN CRITICAL SYSTEM ERRORS

To fix the errors please do the following:

random stuff with a website address thrown in

FAILURE TO ACT NOW MAY LEAD TO DATA LOSS AND CORRUPTION

if the PC is left on i will have to go through loads of these bloody things to get rid of them.

Is it an official XP thing or something sneaky thats come in from something the g/f has installed?

thanks

Ad-Aware SE personal and Spybot search and destroy.

However, the g/f says shes only had this problem since she first installed Spybot.

have you disabled messenger in control panel, admin tool, services. if not this could be the prob
Thats what you`ll need to do, also it might be worth hunting through the stickies here as there is a post with detailed uninstall instructions regarding the Messenger program.

I had this 2 weeks ago

Did it just randomly appear? or did you install a fresh copy of xp and then it starting appearing?

I think it had something to do with Spybot, it seems to have started shortly after that was installed and run.

Ive disabled it now so hopefully it should stop it.

Thanks all.
