meta is dying ?

Clickbait imo. There is more than just Meta laying off staff at the moment. Looking forward to the Quest 3 next year.

ALL big tech companies are laying off employees. Amazon have just announced 10,000 job losses.

These companies massively expanded during covid, as people were stuck at home so demand rose hugely. Now covid isn't really an issue and there's a big economic downturn and massive inflation all these companies are downsizing to levels similar to before covid hit.

Meta is dying, Zuckerberg is running it into they round, mass layoffs, troubling financials, investors losing billions

What I wanna know is how will everyone here's headsets work when Facebook goes offline

How do you figure that out? As of the third quarter, they have brought in more revenue and have a higher Net income at this stage than any previous year, apart from 2021. I wouldn't mind been in charge of a "dying" company making 20+ billion net income.

And you must be living in a bubble. Mass layoffs, troubling financials and investors losing money, these phrases are happening all across the tech industry right now. It's just like Ravenger said above. Here I will quote his post, since you must have missed it.

And lastly,

What I wanna know is how will everyone here's headsets work when Facebook goes offline

Meta's headsets aren't linked to Facebook anymore.

Weak effort on your part Grim.

What I don't get is Meta bought all these game studios then nothing not even a whiff of a decent game in development. Quest has become a casual gaming device. If it wasn't for SIM racing I think I would have given up on pc vr.

It takes at least 2 years to develop a AAA game.

Bit rubbish if you buy a quest then have to wait 2 years for the games. I think most people will get bored of waiting and move on to the next thing.

What next thing? The quest 3? I reckon meta will be ok with that. Pico isn't selling well, everything else so far is much more costly, and generally needs an equally costly pc.

They've sold 10x the number of headsets than anyone else. 15 million and counting. That's a market worth developing for.

Developers are selling 10x the number of games on the Quest platform than on Steam.

If you think Meta is dying, then fear for the VR market as most of the game development is happening there.

It's no coincidence that many of the PSVR launch titles are Quest ports.

Headsets are uncomfortable, general quality is still poor, the store games are very average, you need a monster PC to even have a sniff at PC VR, and then it's a right faff to get it working properly.........just look at the graphics card section, especially the 4000 series thread. Literally nobody is talking about VR. Well, I started to, and maybe one other person did.

It's very, very niche.

Maybe Sony will have some luck with their v2 next year, but the technology is still years away imho but at least companies are having a go at it.

Me, I have thousands of hours in VR and I'm getting new games all the time. Latest is Ancient Dungeon which is great fun.
I've spent over 200 hours playing modded Skyrim VR, plus there's all the fan ports like HL2, and the RE remakes. Lots of content out there to enjoy other than Sims.

I'm more into VR than when I first started using it in 2014.

there's me, you, Iron Man, JonRGV250, Zeeflyboy, and 1 or 2 more vr users i can't remember the names that i have seen to have posted in the 4000 series gpu thread, so that's 6 or 7 users...hardly "nobody".

imo headsets are comfy, general quality is decent, some games are well above average yes some aren't, yes ideally you need a good pc but it's possible to vr game on older pc's, yes it can be a faff to get working but once setup and running having learnt the ropes it's easy.

ha! I knew there was more people in that thread. Where's wally brain gone, let me find him......

Well Meta's only real success so far with VR is onboarding millions of 12 year olds with cheap quests. Most of which are now gathering the proverbial dust in peoples closets.

The bigger problem is apple, they have a huge established market to sell to. Facebook/Meta wasted their time advantage with differing directions of travel, underwhelming promotion with limited gen 1 technology. Beyond the sentence above, they failed to establish any kind of credible market to sell to. That's why investors are questioning the state of play and direction of things.

I do like the Metaverse adds on the radio though, very inspiring. As they all start with 'In the Future' i can't help but think that Apple execs are thanking them for pre-promotion.

How do you know those headsets are gathering dust?
