So.... I bought my PS3 earlier this year for GT5 & the long awaited MGS4.

Was amazed when i started to play MGS... it felt great, refined and looked amazing.

Act 1

Was great with some good gameplay.

Act 2

same again... great but quite a few cutscenes and not as much gameplay.

Act 3 & Act 4

40mins of mission briefing & then when i got to ground or whatever and saved the game - expecting to play now after waiting and watching But guess what???

Cutscene again.... (i mean the were bloody great cutscenes but i just feel robbed of gameplay).

I love the whole metal gear series but i just feel robbed here. I havent finished the game yet - but will be doing soon. But i felt i had to mention something here.

I started playing the other night at 8:30 thinking me and my mate can get 1hour and 30mins before Dexter is on FX (on sky 10pm). Turned it on, loaded my game.... cutscene. Watched it for 30minutes, saved, end of Act. Install for next act, cutscene for 40mins. played for 10 minutes, cutscene end of act.

Is it mean or is it just a film this game? I mean i know its the finale but bloody hell!

Dont get me wrong, the gameplay is great when you get a chance to play but there isnt a lot of it.

MGS4 I found was shocking. totally over hyped, but just my opinion.

I do feel it is hyped.

First act really made me think WOW... but after that im getting bored with all these huge cutscenes (good, but toooooo long).

1,2 & 3 had cutscenes (which were great) but none were really over 10mins max - and you had a lot of gameplay between each of them.

I feel the older games had the right mix of gameplay/cut scenes.

I did love MGS4 but i would have liked more gameplay :(

MGS1 > *

i agree with the op i got really bored during act2 and never went back to it
act 1 really did not do much for me either just seemed like you were a small part of a movie

Yes... i think act1 is the best but its still not v.good. I expected more as it was the first for PS3 and expected the series finale to be great, huge and really use the PS3 to its full potential.

However....... it doesnt, the graphics arent the most impressive ive seen (apart from the chars... the lvl of detail is great).

I want to love this game because i loved the rest of them. But i can honestly say ive probably played about 2 - 3 hours of gameplay.

Its like they aim to dissapoint.

Remember MGS2? they bought that demo out in Japanese with Zone of the Enders. I bought that game just for the demo. Being snake again was immense.... however when you bought MGS2... you play Snake for a short while and then your Raiden forever... dont get me wrong hes a good guy but MGS = Snake

Does it really have 30 minute long cut scenes?

If so I will seriously consider not bothering to play it any more. I have so little gaming time now I don't want to spend 30 minutes watching what will basically be a crap film.

The game has hardly gripped me yet anyway!

Honestly... it was 7:30 last sunday, i ordered a pizza with a mate from Dominos. They said a 50 minute wait. I was still watching the same part of the cutscene when it arrived and didnt get to play. It saved in between and then did a 3minute installation to the Hard Drive & then continued the same cutscene. So pizza arrived and shut down :(

I'm just finishing act 2, guess i've got this to look forward to :(

Didn't particularly like Act 1 though, thought the setting and everything going on around felt like more of a CoD game than MGS. Act 2 was a lot better though.

Im sorry, but they werent.

Yes they were, just not as long as some of them are in MGS4. If you play MGS4 without being a fan of the series or know what you're getting into, then you're going to be hugely let down. I can see where people are coming from though, MGS4 doesn't have enough gameplay compared to cut scenes but I wouldn't have it any other way.

MGS4 is the type of game you play when you have no interruptions or distractions, it requries your full attention to enjoy it. Its just not a game everyone can get into.

I played MGS1,MGS2,MGS3 & then MGS4 all back to back and after all that Metal Gear, it was nice to play a game like Mario Galaxy or God of War that was just straight up gameplay.

It has something silly like 4+ hours of cutscenes. (what I read somewhere), I like the rest played half way through to ACT 2, and never touched it again.

Its always been heavily story based tbh. I thought the end of MGS2 was pretty heavy in comparison to some of 4. You should really be expecting these sort of cut scenes though when you brought the game as this is what MGS is all about. Its understandable why some people dont like it though if theyre not expecting it or its not there thing. Its not a sterotypical game.
