Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1

I've only tried MGS3 so far and it looks squished, any one found that it looks squished, as if its 4:3 aspect ratio? I do have small black bars on either side of the screen which is not ideal.

The Gman youtube review shows this, but not to the extent of a different aspect ratio. IIRC it's not been ported to widescreen, i can't remember if that era was 16:9 or not.

The original, no.

But I believe these are the HD remaster versions released in late 2011, which were converted to 1080p/60 16:9 wide-screen.

They needed to have actually done more than just emulate to get my money. These days you would like them to at least use ai to upscale textures. Allow for some settings for us to change such as resolution.

Right now it sounds like a lazy effort where the emulator version you can grab yourself is better. Wtf.

Put some damn effort in if you want such a high asking price. Why not try an RTX Remix version of MGS 1 or something?

I already can't remember what was used in this version from watching the Gman review, but i do recall he was showing the original running at 50fps still, with a greyed out option for US/Japan 60fps version.

Another funny issue i've found, so on my monitor/tv (LG C2) cause i'm using a woeful laptop 3070, Some of my games I have to run 1440p, and to not lose discord on a different screen i've set the actual monitor's res to 1440p.

So because of that, for some reason the screen will not run anything below 100hz at 1440p, which means it forces MGS2/3 to run at 100fps, and Snake is running around at 3x speed, great for speedrunning, not so great for aiming...It's easily fixed my end, I set my internal res back to 4K and the game runs properly, just thought I'd mention that funny bug.

You can set a 60fps limit using NCP or RTSS which fixes that issues, whats more worrying for me is the games ( MGS2 / MGS3 ) are locked at 720p with no way to change resolution where there are supposed to be in 1080p :o its seems all they have done is port over the PS3 HD remakes and added no extra options at all, literally a bare bones port

If Kojima was still at Konami I’m fairly certain this collection wouldn’t exist in this form and we’d have more polished remasters.

I tried setting a custom profile for 1440p 60hz in NCP, it still refuses to do anything less than 100hz at 1440p, it's weird, i mean its no problem changing back to 4K, not like this game is demanding to run.

Also...

Strange as it locks to 60 for me although all i am doing is setting fps to 60 and not trying to change resolution but works on both the 4k screen and 1440p , maybe try locking it with RTSS if NCP isn't working ...

The actual remake is looking lovely indeed although i would have rather a remake of the PS1 original as that is in dire need of remastering where as MGS3 still has a decent enough version to play with what we just got albeit at 720p but still it has aged better than the first for sure .
